One of the best of the 70s - The Sting Reviews
A lot of movies made in the 1970s simply can't stand the test of time, because of a truly messed up culture. You could go to Shakespeare in the Park, and see Hamlet wearing tie-die. Most of the period pieces of the decade used 70s hairstyles and 70s influenced costumes, so you can tell in an instant when the film was made, even if you can't tell what era the film is supposed to be portraying. This film, thankfully, isn't like that. There is an authentic feel of Depression Era Chicago, and a soundtrack straight out of Prohibition.
The cast was stellar, beginning with a couple of leading men you may have heard of, Robert Redford and Paul Newman. Both give magnificent performances. The supporting cast was equally impressive. Robert Shaw was quite menacing as an Irish mob boss. My Favorite Martian, Ray Walston, was quite believable as the brains of the operation. Harold Gould was the ultimate smooth talking operator. Robert Earl Jones, (father of James Earl), was very sympathetic as Redford's mentor. And Charles Durning played the corrupt, and slightly bumbling, cop nearly perfectly.
The sting keeps you thinking - The Sting Reviews
In the Sting, a young man seeks revenge because his partner in crime is murdered. He seeks the help of Henry Gondorf and begins to plot a way to make money off the killer. The Sting's ending leaves you thinking, because all through the Sting you should never believe what you see.
A great movie - The Sting Reviews
from begining to end. Loved the way it ends:"Hey kid, what about your share? Nah...i'd just blow it." You can't really appreciate those lines unless you watch the movie.

It's amazing!! - The Sting Reviews
ITS AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING MOVIE BUY OR RENT IT NOW!! TODAY I TELL YA TODAY!!yes do it i tell ya do it you really should and its guaranteed not to be a waist of time or money
Not bad... - The Sting Reviews
...but it is just a movie about two con artists back in the 1930s. It doesn't exactly raise awareness about anything relevent. One in a line of films that made Robert Redford a corporation. Interesting thing-the music was by Scott Joplin, a black man who started recording piano rags in the 1890s.
Robert redford and the sting - The Sting Reviews
In reflecting on The Sting I see only Robert Redford with that cocky and very naive smile as he runs through the movie and character and the life of this very entertaining movie with a wonderful soundtrack and smart subtitles between acts. I loved it. Of course Paul Newman was great and quite effective as the senior statesman to Robert Redford's freshman status. Luther was wonderful as the very respected grifter and who I found out was Earl James Jones's father. How about that? It doesn't get better then that. The supporting cast was phenomenal from the little guy reading the ticker tape to the guy with the limp (Robert Shaw). Talk about a work of blooming art!!!

Paul and redford make this a funny gangster movie as 2 guys johnny hooker and henry gondroff ready to make the biggest score of a lifetime off gangster doyle landon aka robert shaw who is good here in this movie but let us say once he finds out the truth something or somebody may have to pay the price in more ways then one the ending is kinda a surprise that leaves u stunned and surprised at the same time but still this is a funny good movie with a good cast that includes harold gould robert shaw paul newman and redford so see it when u get a chance and do not try to get stung

One of my 10 favourite movies - The Sting Reviews
This is truly one of my 10 favourite movies. It tells the very original story of some robbers wich plan the best movie sting I have ever seen. Robert Redford spends all the movie running to try and escape from a policeman and from Lonnegan's men.

The acting, directing, and the length of time are all superb. A great film. Newman/Redford are both fantastic. The ending is a great one. The music is somewhat dated. I liked everything the movie has. A fun filled time is to be had. This is so great.

The sting - The Sting Reviews
This movie is so sweet. Robert Redfor and Paul Newman are amazing. Artistically this movie is awseome, the set design is awseome. The cinematography is great. Pretty much everything about this movie is good. The story its self is what makes this movie. It is very well written. I highly recommend.
My favourite movie - The Sting Reviews
This is my all-time favourite movie. Redford, Newman, Robert Shaw, how can you go wrong?
Acting is superb. Even though thwe main actors are top actors recognizabe to anyone with a passing familiarity with the fact that movies exist, you lose the noteriety in the characters.
This is a period piece set in 1920's chicago area. It is about a con game run by redford and newman on shaw.
It won the Best Picture Acadamy Award in 1973 and stands up well to the test of time.
Great film. one of my favorites - The Sting Reviews
Great cast and a unique plot. The movie had me scratching my head thinking how they were going to pull this off.

Greatest movie ever - The Sting Reviews
The Sting is one of the greatest movies ever made. Johnny hooker is played by robert redford and teams up with henry gondorf, paul newman for the greatest con movies. Its an old movie and it has it's share of slow parts, but bare with it and you'll be glad you did. it won ther academy award for a reason.
Awesome production - The Sting Reviews
I love this movie; if I could only own 10 movies, this would be one of them. The only flaw I see is what seems to be strangely inappropriate racial language in the opeing scenes. I know using the N word is an integral part of the story, but it rankles me every time I hear it. Otherwise, a movie to watch over and over.
Classsical - The Sting Reviews
The story was unbelievable i enjoyed the fine touch of Scott Joplins Ragtime which gave the movie it's identidy. Great scam great story great acting I recomend it very highley. If you havent watched it yet you have not witnessed good cinema.

Good dramatic comedy - The Sting Reviews
This is a movie that I wish I could see for the first time...again and again. The music is wonderful, but Scott Joplin is not from the period of the movies events. The story twists and turns. The Paul and Robert acting combination is superb.
Must see.
Always a favorite - The Sting Reviews
It is humerous to read the reviews of those who are just discovering this film. I am pleased that it continues to enrapture new fans.

Good - The Sting Reviews
pretty good....the first movie that really required following the plot...and it was well done....some parts you got, and some kept you puzzled....overall a great movie...a tad bit on the long side, but still outstanding....great performance
See it twice! - The Sting Reviews
See this movie twice. Not only because you'll enjoy as much the second time, but you'll need that extra viewing to fully understand the story.
In the plot to confuse their "mark," the protagonists also confuse the viewer, who isn't in on everything until the end.
Good acting and great visuals (costumes, sets). Fantastic music.
Every time you see this movie, you'll appreciate it more. So enjoy it, and enjoy it again. And again! I never tire of it. One of my all-time favorites.
A good old classic - The Sting Reviews
It is not the greatest movie of all times but has a perfect combination between the story and its good interpretation from all the actors in the cast. Gives good entertainment.

Intelligent heist, - The Sting Reviews
I saw it in 73 and still it stands out as a truly finny and ??good guys win?? scenario. on par with and as funny as Danny Kaye and others before this time. In to-days blood and special Branch flicks the Sting is one of the roses on the dump.rose on the dump.
General, not review:
To-days movies are polarized, - good or bad, and really horribly bad. There are more of cat.2 which shows that we are making our environm more brutal and blunt.
Huge disapointment - The Sting Reviews
I could not believe how bad this movie was. My wife quit watching half way through, but I stuck it out. What a waste! The actors acted like they were acting. I'm going back to books.
Simply a classic - The Sting Reviews
This has been one of my favorites since age 9. The story is fantastic, especially Newman and Robert Shaw. The visuals are well-done, as well. One can watch this film fifty-three times and pick up something new each viewing.

The sting - The Sting Reviews
The sting
The movie The Sting is a 1973 con artist movie, for its time it was an out standing movie. The movie had some of the best actors of its time Academy award winners, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Robert Shaw, Charles Durning, Ray Walston, and Eileen Brennan. Director: George Roy hill.
The sting is overall a good movie; the movie had a lot of drama and action. The way the cons always get there man and how they plan every thing. All the acting falls right in to place, with all the detail and it seemed like the characters had fun with their sense. The acting was outstanding I would have never guessed what any of the characters was up to until the time came. The plans and tricks played a good part with all the acting. All the sate ups keep the movie going.
The story lines and how everything falls into place
Reminds me of the movie Oceans11. The drama, action, the acting the money everything about the movie I give it 2 Tums up. And I feel if you like gangster movie you?ll like this movie. The Sting is a movie that I can watch over and over aging and I say you should watch it too.
My favorite movie ever - The Sting Reviews
This is a one of a kind movie. The acting is supurb...the plot engrossing. I watch this movie over and over and never get bored of it. I was only 2 years old when this movie came out yet it is by far my favorite movie ever.
Best con-movie ever - The Sting Reviews
"The Sting" is a great, classic, hilarious movie that goes down as one of the best ever.
There isn't much to say about this classic. It brings a great storyline of a huge sting operation to earn hefty sums of money to fool even the Feds. The comedy is also near perfect, giving laughs to first, second, and even third-time seers.
Outstanding acting caps off this four-star movie. And there isn't a doubt in most people's minds that this movie is definately deserving of all four.

A friend of mine made me watch this movie against my will and wow is all I can say. What a great movie this truly is. Robert Redford was amazing as the con man and truly made this a special film. If you want to see a great movie about cons and revenge make sure to watch this one.

The greatest caper - The Sting Reviews
Twists and turns abound in this classic con artist film that still has not been topped and has only been copied at best. Redford and Newman literally look like they are having fun for two plus hours along with the rest of the cast. It has such a breezy attitude that you can't help be caught up in its flair.
Skeptical at first, but amazing. - The Sting Reviews
My mom suggested I watch this movie a few years ago, and I was quite skeptical. However, I let her convince me to watch it, and thank God I did. The acting is superb, the storytelling is amazing. This is truly one of the best movies ever. Don't read any more reviews, just go see it.
Excellent movie - The Sting Reviews
one of the top 10 movies i've ever seen.
Newman and Redford were great. The plot was very nice. Overall, a great movie.

A great classic with fantastic actors - The Sting Reviews
I recently rewatched the film classic The Sting. It happened just by chance that i went to blockbuster and looked at the new releases and just got fed up with the crap coming out these days. It was time to go back when a good plot and great acting captured you in, not fancy visuals. The Sting is a great movie to just watch and enjoy everything about. Two of the greatest actors, expecially when they work together, Paul Newman and Robert Redford shine in this movie. Anyone who rates this movie poorly cleary is just upset that it didnt have 30 more twist and turns and maybe some explosions in it. Some people just need to get a clue about what good filmaking is, The Sting is just that.
One of the best! - The Sting Reviews
One of the best movies ever made! Why isn't it in AFI's top 100 American movies list?? This movie is almost flawless. The viewer is in on the con the whole way and then at the end, George Roy Hill cons us. Just great.
One of the best - The Sting Reviews
One of the best films of all time, great acting, good story line, great period film. On the short list of 10 films that everybody likes.

Heading back to the classic rack at the video stor - The Sting Reviews
After the last few visits to the video store I felt I was throwing my money away at the new releases. So I ventured to the movie classic rack and rented the Sting for 1 American dollar. I have to admit I think I ripped of the video store. If all the old classics are as good as this movie, I will be saving alot of money renting movies for only a dollar.
Truly great - The Sting Reviews
This movie is extremely great in almost all areas and no one should vote this movie below an A-. If they do they do not understand classic movies at all.
My personal favorite - The Sting Reviews
The 1973 film The Sting which starred Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Robert shaw is an amazing, spectacular and utterlly entertaining. The Sting is my personal favorite film of al time. This is the godfather of all con movies, twist endings, double cross films, screen duos and "I-Should-of-Seen-That-One-Coming" slapstick comedy.
Fan - friggin' - tastic - The Sting Reviews
This film was released 30 years ago (well before I was born) and is still great. It is one of the few films that truly stands up well over time. I defy anyone to watch it now and not find it amazing. I was interested the entire time, from beginning to end. No dull moments. Brilliant story, brilliant direction, brilliant acting, brilliant score...and just a downright cool movie.
A must-see classic - The Sting Reviews
If you have yet to see this classic film, you're missing out big-time. Paul Newman is amazing and you get he feeling that you are learning the tricks of the trade from him from him. Robert Redford yet another amazing actor who plays out an excellent role.
You truly think you're in the 30's - The Sting Reviews
One of my favorite scenes in this movie is the poker game. It is filmed and acting masterfully.
Although this movie had some boring parts, I thought it was a very well made movie, and I enjoyed it.
